Life is full of disappointment

Sad night in the King house tonight. Grace informed us she didn't make the show choir try outs for school next year. She was pretty disappointed. We talked and shed tears together. I think her confidence psyched her out.
I joked with her while singing to the radio that they were crazy not to take her if her voice was as good as mine ;)
Later that evening the tears passed after Mom treated her to a little home pedicure and manicure in preparations for a shopping trip to IL tomorrow.
Aaron and Owen leave for Detroit to take in a Red Wings Game with Nate, Cael and Bill. Owen has been counting down the days for months!!

Funny girl

Grace was home sick today. With me working and Aaron in Madison today she was by herself. She just has a cold.
Anyways, I came home to find her like this, see photo below.  She had you tube up on the tv with a tutorial on how to make a rubber band bracelet. Note the Kleenex, bag for garbage, EOS lip balm and the pitcher of water because she said she was to lazy to get up and refill her glass. Funny Girl!!!
She didn't want her picture taken ;)

What's goin on?

I figured since I am sitting here in bed after a day of the stomach flu I would post an update on our lives.
Grace: just a few weeks ago we had our meeting with the high school guidance department to register grace for classes next year. She is required to take English, science, health/gym and a math class which will be algebra. She will also be taking band and tentatively show choir if she makes the tryouts. She will also have a study hall. We had lots of discussions about how to set her up best for her years of high school which raised some questions for her to think about looking into the future. She seemed so stressed out thinking she needed to know what she wanted to do when she grows up. When it came down to it is all she really needs to know was what route she saw herself taking out of high school. Would it be technical school, a four year college or the work force. She made her goal to attend the University of Wisconsin Madison! Yikes. I am proud if her for shooting high. When asked what she thought she was interested in she said something with marketing or graphic design.  I still can't believe we only have four more years with her. Thinking back about how fast the past 13 have gone 4 years is going to be gone in a blink! 😔
Other than the big decisions grace has had a weekly babysitting gig a fee days a week for the middle school principal that lives in our hood. This week she has there days of show choir prep for tryouts on Thursday. She decided against trying out for Poms as well. She will most likely have enough on her plate along with marching band!
As for Owen he is still O. He had an awesome conference with his teacher. He is excelling in reading and right on track with math! At the end of the week he is doing an interpretive reading competition. While laying in bed this morning it made me smile hearing him practice his piece all by himself. He is such an all around great kid who wants to everything and anything.  Basketball finished up this week and he scored 3 baskets and was so excited about it. This  summer he is going to give golf a swing and will do machine pitch baseball.
As for us were just trying to keep up ith the kids and our jobs. I am working one night a week at the new salon which is really fabulous! I sure wish I could make a career out of working there but I can't beat the benefits and pay at school.
Aaron, Owen, Nate and Cael will be traveling to Detroit in a couple weeks for a red wings game. Owen is counting down the days on his red wings calendar!
