Start of Summer

Well summer is off to a fast start!  So much has already gone by I thought I should do an update!  Where to begin?!?  I guess our summer officially started off with our first camping trip to Grand Valley.  Our next big weekend would be last weekend with the recital.  It was a really great day and a long one too.  There were 2 performances this year to split things up.  Grace had 8 dances between 2 shows!  Owen danced as well and Grace and I did a Mom/Daughter Hip Hop Dance with a class we joined about 2 months prior to the show.  We didn't have a lot of family that was able to come and watch which was a bummer but understandable as so many are so far away.  Marilee and Bert did join us which was a treat!
The show went great!  Grace has come so far with her dancing and I was a proud dance Mom.  Owen really enjoys his time on stage and gave it his best.  However, I think he is a much better free style dancer!  I had a great time dancing along with Grace and really wasn't too nervous this time around.  Maybe it had something to do with the glass of wine I had and no dinner, ha!  We got a lot of great compliments on our dance and it was SO much fun and went by way too fast!
As for the weekdays of summer, the kids and I have been enjoying some easy going days compared to years past.  No summer school or swimming lessons to rush to in the mornings which is SO wonderful!  Grace is doing band this summer for 2 weeks but it is really working out well.  She has a 1/2 hour practice in the morning so we go into Milton, drop her at the middle school and Owen and I either run a couple of errands or just pull out a blanket from the car and sit in the nice shade tree and read till she is done.  We have also been enjoying a nice pool in Ft. Atkinson where we got a summer pass.  Owen is becoming a fish.  Today he went down the big waterslide all by himself!  He is swimming under water and diving in too!  Our friend Kim and her kids have a pass too so we always have friends to join us!
This weekend we are venturing to my Mom and Tom's on the lake.  Nate, Nicole and family will be joining us.  We are looking forward to showing them the cottage in the summer time!  I keep thinking about all we can do there and the long weekend just doesn't seem like enough time.  I am looking forward to it.  Missing my Mom terribly so will be nice to spend some time there!

On a sad note.... Owen turns 5 tomorrow!  I know its really not sad but it makes me a little sad because 5 seems like such a big number.  It will be a big year with kindergarten starting so it is just a giant step for Mom!  He is SO excited!  We will have a little party for him up North.  We got him some bug hunting stuff, paper jamz guitar and a new bike helmet.  He is such a great, fun, fascinating kid and so special to us.  I never knew how rewarding it would be to have a boy!  I guess no matter how old he gets he'll always be my little man!

Yesterday I went in for a simple surgery/procedure to hopefully help with my menstrual periods.  Little bit on the lines of a colonoscopy where they put you under enough to be in a good slumber state, do what they need to do and then wake you up and you can go home once your coherent.  Everything went very well and I have been taking it easy now and feeling better than I had thought I might!  The best part of it all is that I have had Aaron home yesterday and even again today!!  Such a lucky girl, it has been really nice having him around during the day.
The kids have been kind of funny about the whole thing.  I had to tell them what was going on the night before because my friend Kim was coming in the morning to get them up and around before school.  Grace tried to convince me she could do it all on her own and there was no need for Kim to come.  I believed she could do it but my fear was that she wouldn't be able to get herself out of bed in time ;)  However, she was up before Kim even got here in the morning.  I tried to inform Owen without telling him too much as I knew he might not really understand.  However, upon saying I had to go to the doctor he had all kinds of worried questions.  He was so sweet and concerned about me.  Upon coming home later that day the first thing he asked when walking in the door was "How was the hospital Mom?", almost as if I was on a field trip for the day!
Anyway, I am doing well.  Having a hard time keeping still, back on my feet today but still taking it easy.  Just hoping this all does the trick!
